A Holiday Weekend

Holidays are supposed to mean a time to relax and celebrate the cause of the holiday. We didn’t quite do it that way. We had Burns Night, took down the Christmas decorations, and did some computer upgrades.

Speaking of celebrations— we did enjoy the win by the St. Louis Rams; or should I say the defeat of the Packers?

Saturday the Burns Night celebration was very much like the previous years’, with dancing, piping, toasting, and, of course, the haggis. I did not have David’s Prince Charlie this year, so wore my Argyll jacket with the other formal wear. Ruth looked elegant in a black velvet sheath with white collar and cuffs. Both of us agreed that this year the evening did not have the luster of other years. It was not as well organized, even though most of the parts were the same. It is interesting how the same program (essentially) will have a different “take” depending upon who is planning it and who leads it. For instance, the MC was a minister who just had very little interest in what he was asked to do.

One of Ruth’s colleagues from Foundation Central came by the house on Monday to help us review some upgrades on our equipment. He was helpful, and has about convinced us to go to a cable system. He also showed us a shorter way to handle defraging.

The Christmas tree we cut this year simply did not want to drop needles, so we thought it was doing fine. When we began to take off the decorations, we found it was very, very dry—much more than we thought. It was very nice while it lasted.

We relished the football game on Sunday. Ruth thought the rear ends of the Rams looked better in gold than the Packers’ in yellow. The only thing that could have made the afternoon better was if the defeat had been at the hands of the Chicago Bears. Unfortunately, that group did not do so well, either. What happened to the Packers? Has Favre finally reached his zenith and now must follow Aikman, Moreno, and all the rest of the heros into the auto agency or insurance business?

Sunday night Sarah learned how to do the Lion yoga position. Instead of calming her (as yoga positions are supposed to do), it seemed to get her stirred up.

I think domed stadiums should be outlawed....

So you would rather have the Rams outside in the snow?

Well, yeah, and without the crowd noise. Who needs football on a carpet anyway?
